What's New- Hello Monday!

Hi Julia and my OFF family:

Brrr, it's even cold down here is Louisiana ... 34 degrees ... we had freezing rain last night and it froze on the car's windows, but not on the sidewalks. It was a little tough getting off the windshields and windows, but not all that bad ... you just have to know how to deal with it. I had it all off in five minutes or less.

Julia, I'm sure your appointment will go fine ... enjoy San Fran. I've never been there, one of the places I've always wanted to visit. I have cousins in the Bay Area (actually Contra Costa); my Aunt Kay lived in San Leandro for years, and her children still live around there. Someday maybe ...

Got home from work last night, ready to embark on four days off ... it's Christmas and New Year's ... and was having my late night snack when I crunched down on something. Well, seems I broke a tooth. I knew I had a bad one on top right, was waiting to get to the dentist tomorrow ... needed a crown for a long time. But it wasn't the top right tooth that broke ... it was the bottom right. Oh joy, something else to go wrong this year. 2011 isn't starting out right at all. So I'm going to the dentist today instead to have them look at the broken tooth.

Other than that, not much on my plate for these four days. I need to get the Christmas decoration down, do some laundry (sheets, bedding, etc.), and just generally clean up around here. Maybe I'll go to a movie sometime. Tomorrow, I'm getting my hair cut and colored too. It's getting way too long.

Margo, glad to hear cat and dog are coexisting peacefully. Diva always liked sleeping on my legs ... especially my right leg ... not comfortable for me at all .. .I always had to shoo her off. So far, Juliette doesn't sleep that close to me at all, if she sleeps in the bed at all. Last night, she was in the bed (it was cold enough ... she's kind of a loner at times).

Well, have a good day.

Good morning everyone.  It's cold as heck here but we only had about 1 inch of snow.  Our new puppy is just amazed about the whole thing.  Nothing much to tell.  Waiting for the 3rd Wednesday of the month when I'm supposed to get my first disability check.  I'll probably have to spend half of it on food.  I usually keep well stocked cupboards but I am almost empty.  It will really feel good to have some money coming in again to pay bills and such.  I hope everyone is ok.  I still don't have internet so I am at McDonald's again for a few minutes.  My dh is wonderful enough to bring me.  City hall is closed today so he is just on call for any water problems.  I've been staying between 120-123 lbs.  It was difficult over the holidays and also my husband wanting me to gain back a "few" lbs bringing home nacho chips and wheat thins (my two favorite carbs).  I threw it all out.  I haven't been getting in my water like I should and am all "wrinkley".  OK here's a funny:  I have been having problems with dry skin and it bruises and tears easily so I have started putting on lotion 2 x day all over.  I've been doing this for about a week now.  This morning I took it into the kitchen just to do my legs and arms that were feeling dry and noticed that I had been using a moisturizing body wash all this time.  I have been rubbing it all over after my shower.  Even on my face, lol.  I got in the shower and wet myself down and didn't even have to use any soap.  I lathered up quite well.

Sybul,

See if there is an Angel Food Ministries near you.  There is one close to here.  You don't have to be indigent to go.  It's great!!

I turned my brother and SIL onto it and they can now have a little more spending money for essentials that they didn't have before.

Hi Julia and all my OFF friends,
I hope all goes well with your tests.  I've been to San Francisco twice.  I really enjoyed riding the cable car.  I also bought a beautiful green jade necklace in Chinatown that I love.  Have fun.
Eileen,  I broke my tooth on New Year's Eve and then the filling fell out on New Year's Day.  I had to go get my white count checked on the Monday after so I could go to the dentist.  It has been fixed but I'm wondering if there is not a problem with it.  I can taste it.  So I'm wondering if maybe there is some infection somewhere.  It does not hurt though.
Nancy B. and Cheryl, I'm glad you got your Mom's to eat.  It's sad to say but I don't put much faith in nursing homes to be that attentive to your Mom's needs.  I hope you can get them to cooperate.  It's hard because you have to be there every day to make sure their needs are being met.
Sybul, You made me laugh because I am always trying to read labels without my glasses and I am not very good at it at all.
My energy is shot today.  I worked on my laptop for work from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m..  Now I don't even have the concentration to watch TV.  I took some Tylenol with Codeine for a headache I was getting.  I think I'm going to give in and nap for a little while.
More snow expected tomorrow.  I'm just staying in and staying warm.  I hope all of you do the same.
Hugs and prayers to all of you with challenges.
Bev

Bev, I spent $1,139 for a crown today ... it was a tooth with a very deep filling that had several pins holding it together ... there was a little decay but it hadn't gotten down to the nerve at least, so I didn't need a root canal. I was there for three hours. I have never been in a dentist's chair that long. And, of course, as with anything down here, you pay for everything up front ... they will bill insurance, but insurance pays the patient, not the provider. So fortunately, I had money on my FSA that covered it but still ... if I didn't, I coudln't afford it. And I would have had to deal with a fractured tooth.

Hope your headache went away. I have a numb mouth ... at least they really numb you up there (they even asked if I wanted gas ... I could have said I manufacture my own, but I wasn't sure if they would get the joke!) Very fancy dentist office ... free coffee, water and juice, and you get a milk shake or juice when you leave.

It's still cold here, no snow but still ice on the trees.

Sorry about the crown, Eileen. Those things aren't cheap. I'm facing on on Feb 1.  I just had the $2,000 root canal.  I understand about how the year is starting.

I took my numb mouth and went to Starbucks... slobbered all over myself.

Will I ever learn??

Wow, that's expensive.  We have dental insurance but the cap is $1,200 a year.  So that would have used it up for the whole year.
I can't imagine what it would have been if they did a root canal too.  It's a good thing you have the money in your FSA.
I've been having problems all day with the headache coming and going so I keep taking the tylenol with codeine and then it clears up for a while.  Actually, I'm feeling good right now.
Thanks for the thoughts.

Janet,
Thank you so much.  I just want to tell you that your posts crack me up.  I love your sense of humor and I really need that right now.
I find that the farther I get away from chemo day, the better I feel.  I think tomorrow will be a good day.  One of the chemo IV bags is steroids and when they wear off is when I crash.  Which sucks because chemo days are Fridays so that means Sunday and Monday are not good.
Family and friends have been wonderful to me.  Hubby is doing all the cooking and calls me everyday from work to make sure I'm OK and if there is anything he can bring me home.  My sisters are taking turns doing my cleaning.
I just read about your cruise, that's great, enjoy yourself.  I went on a cruise that had a stop in Playa del Carmen which is near Cozumel.  We went to the Mayan ruins at Muyil and went on a two mile walk through rain forest that ended at a beach.  It was great!
